Best local Denver hikes: Loch Lomond
For this weeks post I went back to my favorite road near Denver, Fall River Road. You’ll find this road as exit 238 off I70 going west. There’s not only beautiful homes going up for sale in the area everyday but plenty of trails to satisfy even the most adventurous of us. The trail I want to highlight today is one of the more well known “secrets” of the area.
Once you get to the trailhead (directions below) you can make the decision to drive or hike. If you have any decent clearance I would recommend driving. The trail to the big lake is roughly a 15-20-minute drive. When you get here take in all the beauty this area has to offer. 360-degree views of some of the most Coloradoesq landscape you’ll see. Don’t forget to check out the trail going around the lake towards the main waterfall. It’s definitely worth seeing and if you’ve worked up a sweat the waterfall offers you the option to sit underneath it and feel what was one of the most refreshing times I’ve had in Colorado.
If you’ve made it this far you’ve most likely noticed a few people up above… Along the left side of the main area by the lake is a small trail that will take you to the area above the waterfall!!! This area is home to THREE small lakes with the clearest water I’ve yet seen in Colorado. The first time I hiked up to this area I spent close to three hours sitting on a rock and simply looking out. Serene would be a safe way to put it.
For those not satisfied don’t worry, there’s two more lakes hidden above. I have yet to venture to those but will soon. Don’t worry I’ll update everyone on how great the hike was. If this hike made you fall in love with the area, I’m here to help. Homes here range everywhere from the mid $200’s up to over $1million. Land is also available for those looking to create their own dream cabin. With easy access to I70 and two exits away from Idaho Springs this area is perfect for those looking to escape from the hectic Denver lifestyle on the weekends. The total drive time, without weekend traffic, is roughly 40-45 minutes from Denver. I would love an excuse to show you the area and take the jeep out on some trails. If you’re curious about homes in the area let me know and I can send you all the information you’ll need!!
*Directions: Get off I-70 at the fall river road exit. Follow north on Fall River Road drive past the big switch back turn left on Alice RD. Keep your eyes open for Stewart Road. 2.3 Miles you will be at the lake.
